Research Residency PADA Studios,  Barreiro Portugal

November 2 – December 8 2025 https://www.padastudios.com/research-residency

After 3 years as the first Green Councillor for Bedminster, Bristol, I’m picking up my art career and looking forward to having a month of research and learning.

True to my Green values, I’m travelling home by coach and rail and flying to spend a few days exploring Lisbon, then onto Barreiro on 7 November to meet the group of international artists who I’ll be living with for the next month.

The studios are located in the Compania Uniao Fabril, a post industrial heritage site. I’m planning to document the site and research associated links and archives if available. PADA want to to develop closer relationships with the existing community as an older person I’m interested to understand their knowledge of local foods and cooking.

More news on this later.

I’ve been asked to prepare a talk and chosen this title: How can art help to prepare the world for the climate emergency. I plan to discuss current organisations and individuals  working in this field ie Arts and Heritage; Invisible Dust and encourage conversations with the PADA artists.

Do forward projects that fit this brief please or come and join in?
