Kinsale Arts Festival, Cork, Ireland

Kinsale Arts Festival is an annual celebration of international arts and culture, taking place in the unique setting of a historic seaside town. Churches, forts and harbours are transformed into temporary homes for theatre, music, literature and visual art. Previous commissions include large-scale works by Brian O’Doherty and Anya Gallaccio.

Kinsale Arts Festival celebrated its Tenth Anniversary in 2014. The  focus was on the creation of newvisual and interdisciplinary work.

As Associate Curator I was responsible for two site related commissions, artists Daphne Wright for ‘Evelyn’, and Ivan and Heather Morison for ‘You are lost’, and the exhibition programme. This included a solo show of a decade of new and existing work by artist Kathy Prendergast entitled ‘The Furthest Place from the Centre of the Earth’.  Also  ‘Now Wakes the Sea’, an open submission exhibition which was selected by an independent panel including Ingrid Swenson Director PEER, London; Kathy Prendergast, artist; Helen Carey, Director Fire Station Studios, Dublin; Trish Brennan Head of Fine Art and Applied Art CIT Crawford College of Art and Design. The winner was Laura Smith
